Robert Myers is right, one is the day illumination and the other is the
nighttime.  I have recently bought the bulbs and I think they were about $4
each from the dealer. Before you spend too much time tracking down a short,
check for corroded contact points. I have found on my 4k that the thin, film
PC board corrodes easily and causes all kinds of hassle with the dash lights
at the point where the lights contact the flat copper film. That may be why
the smack on the head cured the problem for a while.  The allen wrench hole is
for adjusting the computers range reading. With a full tank the reading should
be 550 for a 4k Coupe GT and 650 for a 4k quattro. (Bentley's numbers)
