Speaking of trucks being great for backing off tailgaters, we just had a
semi loaded with 40,000 lbs of explosives (destined for Hemlo gold mines) go
off the road and explode just outside of town. It blew a hole 15 feet deep
and 100 feet long in the highway. They found one axle set 2 km from the site
of the explosion. Four days later the highway is still closed and they are
still finding undetonated explosives kilometers from the site. The driver
was pulled from the truck before it blew by a good samaritan who lost his
car in the ensuing explosion. Both the driver and the good samaritan
survived. The driver has been charged with careless driving.
How would you like to have been tailgating that sucker? Puts a whole new
complexion on "highway hazards".
If he had blown it in a populated area, the loss of life would have been
staggering. Isn't it nice to know these loads are sharing our highways and
are being driven by dedicated professionals?
