Subject: phones upgrades

OK, I lied when I said the first improvement to my new 91 200 would be
the suspension. The car came with the Cel phone installed by Audi. Now,
since the car is 7 years old, that means the phone is too. Although cars
haven't changed all that much in the last seven years ( lets not get too
picky on this one), Cel phones have improved by leaps and bounds. Sooo,
getting to the point, I think I want to upgrade the phone. Has anyone
had any experience with upgrading the factory phone from the early 90's?
I would like to keep the phone in the same place (the armrest), but
would like to maybe get a PCS phone, that is removable. Is it worth
trying , or should I just stick with the "coffee can and string system"
that is in there now.

Matt: If you have the voice activated phone, it's actually a very good
Motorola unit. I particularly like the hands and eyes free features, and get
very good range and clarity with mine. Unless you go to a digital unit or
need a portable, I wouldn't bother switching it out. Ask your local installer
about it; mine said it's a great unit.
If you do want to integrate a portable into the car, check out Ralph
Poplawsky's (ralphp@cellport.com) company's (www.cellport.com)'s universal
hands free car kit for wireless phones. He's also got a '91 200q and has set
up the system to work with the stock wiring, etc. (although I haven't
seen/tried the unit).
