This is a European thing.  I really like it, personally.  My wifes Honda
beeps loudly and angrily if I run the radio with the door open and the
ignition off.  My Audi radio is very user friendly, esp. while I'm cleaning
the interior, playing nice music for me in appreciation of my attentions.
