      I have no direct experience with the 4K Audis, but,
      if it's setup like the 5K series, your symptoms
      mirror what happens when you have a bad ignition
      switch.  It's a plastic piece behind the lock
      mechanism of the switch.  It's made of plastic
      and if you turn the key to the right a little
      harder than normal it might make contact.

      This would be the first place to check before
      getting into the rest of the system. (at least
      on the 5K)
