80 Brakes and CQ fever

Thanks again to all who responded on the list and privately regarding my
brake woes. The ATE calipers on my previous car (WMB 3 series) were
different and although I had woes with it (bent caliper causing pad to
contact only half the rotor) I had nowhere nearly as much as with the
80.

1st--NOPI sold me wrong front pads. Went ahead and did rear only
initially.
2nd-- Had no idea what tool was used to screw pistons back into rear
calipers. Thanks to very nice guy at Pep Boys, found it--LISLE 25110
4-WHEEL Disc Brake Caliper Tool.
3rd--Also bought rebuild kits for rear calipers since trying to screw
pistons back in caused slit rubber on right side. Rebuilt rear calipers
which were otherwise good--no dryed out rubber--just ripped due to my
stupidity.
4th--While all this was going on, I realised that RR rotor had 1 hole
stripped out and had been running since PO on 3 lug bolts. Another hole
in same rotor was fairly worn and after taking tire off/reinstalling
several times it is ruined too. Now waiting on barely used rotors
(35k) to be shipped from fellow lister.
5th--While rebuilding real calipers, mass qtys of air enter brake
system. Went ahead and flushed entire system with new fluid--great
pedal pressure with car running, but can't road test it due to RR wheel
having only 2 bolts. In fact, car is still on the jack. The old fluid
was very dirty and the calipers i rebuilt had a little bit of corrosion
on them which was easy to remove. No pitting on either of them, so I
think everything should be okay.
6th--I did get the correct front pads from NOPI, and they were installed
without incident. Amazing =)

As I am fairly young, I guess I am learning a lot the hard way about
these cars, but I suppose that is the best way to learn. I enjoy
reading this list as I learn a good deal from it from you folks with
much more experience and knowledge than me. Working on my WMB was like
working on a chevy compared to the Audi. I'm actually glad I bought
such a neglected 80, as things like this PITA brake job have taught me
many lessons.

In a couple of months, I may be in the position to start looking at a c.
1990 CQ--after driving one I have developed a case of CQ fever. If
anyone knows of anything that may be up for sale at that time, low
mileage, reasonable price, maint. records--let me know. Like I said,
though, it will be a few months after some investments mature.
