RE: Wastegate diaphraghm replacement problems...
I have done it before (can be done), but I can't remember the details. All I
remember is that it took me a while to come up with an idea (worked very
well though..), I vaguely remember drilling a small hole to be able to hold
the cup......
Not much eh?.....

Subject: Wastegate diaphraghm replacement problems...
Hi!
Just got a new WG diaphragm from Orin today. Came home to
do the replacement. Removed the WG cap. The old diaphragm
was black and orange all over and hardly attached to any
part of the wastegate. I could not get the bolt holding
the 2 halfs of the WG together to come undone. I held
the unit still by wedging a flat bladed screw driver
between the containing body and the tubular moving part
of the WG. The nut still would not move. The problem
is that the whole bolt unit moves and I don't see a
way of getting to the bolt head without removing the
entire wastegate.
To top it off I slipped up and took a small nick out
of the top edge of the upper cup of the wastegate,
the part above the WG diaphragm. Didn't realise
how brittle this thing is. Can I remove the upper
portion of the WG without having to remove the
whole WG? I mean, I just want to remove the bit
with the diaphragm in and it seems separable from
the part connected directly to the manifold and
corrugated piping.
Any suggestions on getting the darn nut off? I'll now
be driving around with no diaphragm in place. Don't
think the nick in the cup will cause future problems
either, but anyone BTDT?
TIA.
G.
