Unintended Acceleration Happens

Audian alert!
While cruising down the interstate I felt a thud and perceived that my 
cruise control had popped off. As I went to use the gas pedal I realized 
it was nonresponsive. Trying to manipulate the gas pedal with my foot 
caused the accelerator to jam. Now I'm doing 80mph and accelerating!. Got 
off the interstate, braked the car as best I could, as soon as I hit 
neutral the RPMs went out of sight and I turned the ignition off 
immediately. Rolled to a stop and opened the hood. The bushing that holds 
the linkage rod for the cruise control had crumbled, the rod had popped 
out and was wedged among the injectors. Returning it to its proper 
position solved the problem. keeping it there became the job of the ever 
present roll of duct tape. Don't leave home without it!
I don't blame the bushing or Audi, things get old. Replace yours for the 
few pennies they cost.
