Michelin-man hose--no oil

After checking the Michelin-man hose at the outlet if my '91 200q's IC, it
occured to me that the interior of the hose was clean as a whistle. But I
recall many folks referring to how a lot of oil collects in (and degrades)
this hose. Now the hose _may_ have been recently replaced by the PO, but
not that I'm aware of.

Might this absence of oil perhaps signify some problem(s) with the
crankcase breather system (like it ain't breathing)? If so, are there other
symptoms (or problems) that might be related? BTW, the crankcase breather
hose is soft and has a rather deflated look in its large diameter section.
Is the thing just collapsed and non-functional?
