200q intercooler leaks...
This morning, while doing some other work on my '89 200q, I noticed the
timing belt was a little loose. Since I tend to be paranoid about breaking
timing belts, I pulled the intercooler and set it aside while I tightened
the belt and did some other underhood maintenance work.
When I went to reinstall it an hour later, I noticed some oil had weeped
through along the FAR side, under the reinforcing clamps that Audi used on
these later cars. After cleaning the oil away, I saw the plastic cracked
right along the edge of the reinforcing clamp ... hmmm, this probably
explains why my car has not been running too well under boost lately.
If my experience repairing Audi's plastic radiator tanks has any relevance,
I doubt that the epoxy I slathered all over that corner of the intercooler
will hold but we'll see ... looks like I may be installing the Spearco
intercooler I've got lying around sooner than later. :^)
