SNIP

I had this same problem after I left my lights on all weekend, drained the
battery, and tried jump starting the car. The airbag recall had already
been done on my car. Alex Neckas mentioned that the system can be read
with the 1551 (or anyone with the CarComp software and cables). Not having
a 1551 or the software, I went off to the dealer...their diagnosis:
"sporadic short circuit to lamp indicator. would need to remove instrument
cluster to change bulbs...not a problem with the airbag at this time" The
suggested repairs were 2 hours labor plus $4/lamp, and they suggested
replacing some 10 lamps. i declined. in the process, they also reset the
lamp. since then, no problems. IOW, the diagnosis doesn't seem to hold
water!

This is not to say your problem is identical--at the least, start by having
the fault codes pulled, then decide what it means and what to do.
