headlamp bulbs

Just a quick note. Some new Audis take H7 headlamp bulbs. Don't bother
shopping your usual autoparts store for them...they're still pretty rare,
even though Audi A4 (and maybe A6), VW, Volvo, Lexus and a few other
manufacturers are starting to use them.

The left side low beam blew on my dad's '98 Volvo V70, and I put the high
beam bulb into the low beam socket until I could find a bulb for him. The
low and hi beams on the '98s are each single filaments, and *are*
interchangeable. 

The local autoparts store *did* have a single H7 in stock...at $24. Ouch.
Since my dad was one bulb short of a set, I had to spend the money...

Imparts carries them for $10.99. 1 800-325-9043.

Buy a couple of extra and put them in your glove box. Similar
recommendations for any Audi with removable bulbs...they're a lot cheaper
mail order, and you never know when you'll need one. Only popular bulb you
can find is the H4 and the 9004...and only the latter in non-automotive shops.

...and btw, do follow the instructions about not touching the glass part of
the bulb.
