Re: New car for my mom

Andrew,
Don't be fresh! There is no recall on the '92 12v V6 for the head gasket.
If there were, I would not be getting the run around from AoA. The head
gaskets on the '92 12v V6's are notably weak, of course, everyone knows
this except Audi AG ;-(

Eyvind, please be sure to have the head gasket and the valley pan gasket
checked. The head gasket tends to leak near the rear of the engine, and the
valley pan gasket leaks into the valley at the top middle of the cylinders
(the "V").

Also, if the car has an automatic transmission, make sure that it shifts
smoothly throughout the entire operating range.

Next, check all of the electrics; gauges, windows, mirrors, lights,
switches. Also, try and determine if the climate control blows through all
vents.

Speaking of climate control, if the car has the auto climate control, press
both the recirc button and the upper air control button. The temp display
will change to 01, now press the recirc button and look at the value of the
fan speed window. If the value is anything other than 00.0, then the
climate control has a problem.

That's about it for now... If I think of anything else I'll let you know.

Make sure *ALL* recalls have been done, ESPECIALLY the
  head gasket one!
