I just drained the coolant from my '91 200q. It was yellow. The OEM Autobahn
coolant I purchased to replace it is green. I don't think you can tell
whether the coolant is phosphate-free by it's colour.
I seem to recall reading something about scaling resulting from
phosphate-based coolants - I think the scale was calcium-based. Corrosion
occurs under the scale deposits. If you are concerned, flush your system and
use the phosphate-free coolant. I don't think you have run the phosphate
coolant long enough to form scale.
