RE: WRX v. UrQ
yes, i would agree with you. greg and i discussed this when he drove my
rr recently. it is difficult to explain the difference between the
later ur-q's and the earlier ones. although i owned a wr for 3 years,
greg has more recent comparative driving experience than i do...
wrt purchasing the wrx, i would seriously think about it myself due to
price alone. (supply is limited however, due to the very high prices
being paid in britain for the cars). having said that, i should state
the following:
1) the rr handles better, and performs better at the bottom end which
makes the driving experience around town and in the twisties much more
pleasurable. it corners flatter and more precisely. steering feel in
the wrx is good (better than the rs), but not equal with the rr,
although better than the wr. it brakes about the same as the wrx. the
legacy rs is a better braked car than the wrx imho. the wrx and the rr
are around the same weight (wrx a little lighter from memory).
2) quality of the rr is better, although the subie quality is improving
all the time. i've sat in (not driven) the latest upgrade which has a
better dash and "feel" to the earlier car.
3) the image of the wrx is a little like that of the honda crx. it's a
boys car unfortunately.
4) the value of the wrx sags quickly, while the rr is much better long
term. my rr is now worth comfortably more than i paid for it due to
it's condition and rarity. however, mod the rr, and it's value will
plumet.
i was *very* impressed with the quality of greg's a4 when i drove it.
better than i'd remembered and better than any of my cars. it's a
beautiful car.
if i had a spare $50k, would i buy a new wrx, or a used rr and "hot" it,
or spend another $10k and get the s3?
dunno...
i know that greg has driven these cars as well, so if he's on the list,
his comments would be worthwhile...
