'88 80 Heater Core R&R Questions

Has anyone ever done a heater core R&R on an '88 80?  I am leaking 
coolant at an alarming rate.  And, yes, the coolant is inside my car, on 
the drivers floorboard.  I currently have a towel on the floor in places 
of my floormat to soak up coolant because when I step in it it gets on 
my pedals, and I have had my foot slip off the clutch and brake a time 
or two.  

I have the new edition Bentley and it makes it look pretty simple...just 
remove the entire dash, then every piece of the heating/cooling system 
from inside the car, unattach the water lines from the core and viola.  
Now, doesn't that sound simple?  HELP!  Am I looking at a weekend 
project to do this?  I consider myself a weekend mechanic, but this is 
ridiculous.  If anyone has any suggestions please let me know.  I hate 
to do this, but if all else fails it will end up in the hands of my 
local Audi dealer to correct, for a sizeable fee, I am sure.
