That's like comparing apples to oranges. The Subaru WRX cars are
definitely in different category/class than Audi. Just like you shouldn't
compare A8 to those Cadillacs.
And that horsepower figure is misleading. Just like many German
manufacturers got this gentlemen's agreement on 155mph top speed, the
Japanese manufacturers also go this 280bhp rating. British Car magazine
figures that the latest Scoobi is more close to 350bhp. Hmmm... 350bhp out
of 2.2 liter... Sounds like RS2 figures. But the simularity ends there.
The Scooby Dooby Doo can scoot to 60mph under 4 seconds due to its lighter
weight. And Car mag said "...it is hard, very racy, but it's put together
so solidly it doesn't jar..." In comparison, the 911 "...feels heavy and
cumbersome...300bhp 911 feels slow."
All of this for around US$40,000 (current rate). Compared to Audi? Well,
I'd say it's possible to get the Audi to boost the turbo and cut the fat
out. But it'll end up probably as bone-jarring as that Subbie...
