Re: belt quest
Phil;
Check the fit of the belt in your pulleys. If it rides too high (>1/4 of
depth above the pulley rim), you won't have enough surface area to transfer
the power and the belt will squeal and wear. However, it is generally better
to have the belt sitting high than low - if it is high, it may wear in and
sit lower, but if it is low, with a bit of wear it bottoms out in the pulley
and transfers practically no power. The angle on the sides of the belt must
match that on the pulleys, or a belt which appears to fit OK may quickly
wear down to the point where it bottoms out. It is the sides of the v-belt
which transfer power, not the bottom surface.
