Here's a letter I just emailed Autoweek RE the A4...
Autoweek keeps printing the 0-60 times for the A4 as 10 seconds! This week's
issue is the second time they've done it, and so I fired off an email and
thought some of you guys may like to read it.
-----------------------------------------------------
Dear Editor,
I want to address some errors that I have been seeing in your magazine that
are upsetting me. Actually, it's the same error that has appeared twice.
On page 22 of the September 7th issue, you quote 0-60 time for an Audi A4 as
10 seconds with a quoted price of $28,970. On page 22 of the February 9th
issue, you also quote a 0-60 time for an A4 as 10 seconds with a price of
$28,390.
Going by the price quoted of these cars, I am assuming that you are referring
to an A4 2.8 30V. But, your numbers are off by 3 SECONDS! A manual A4 V6 30V
does 0-60 in the 7.0 - 7.2 second range from all the other magazine tests that
I have read. Even with an automatic, those numbers only increase to the low 8
second range.
Now maybe you are referring to the slower 1.8 turbo 20V, but this does not
make sense with the quoted price of $28,000+ price tag. Even so, the 1.8
turbo is not a 10 second car. The manual 1.8t A4 does 0-60 in the low 8
second range according to all other magazine tests, and my A4 1.8t has been
consistently tested with my G Tech Pro at 7.9 - 8.1 seconds to 60 mph. Now
even if you were referring to the automatic A4 1.8t, the car still reaches 60
mph in the low 9 second range.
I wish you would recheck your numbers, because I do not like seeing my car's
performance continuously published wrong in your publication. With numbers so
far off, I am having doubts that I will be renewing my subscription to your
publication this January. Please look into this, I'm sure you will find the
correct numbers, and print them as a correction in a future issue.
