My autobox is mental...

The recent trouble I've been having with the dealer/rev counter
problem on my A6 has got me wondering....

The auto box (4 spd) has this 'intelligent' adaptive change control
algorithm which reads my thought patterns. It seems able to determine
if it really should hang onto that gear a bit longer in order to be
ready for that spontaneous release of youthful enthusiasm and a shot
at half decent acceleration. Except that it invariably gets it wrong.

Yes of course I know that the change 'decision' is made according to
an analysis of the recent driving style but I'm not sure which inputs
are taken into account - speed, throttle position, load, length of
sustained acceleration or a complex calculation based on a combination
of all of the above, day of the week, colour of the sky etc. etc.

My question is this...is there some action I can take whilst driving
to cause the system to forget that I had recently been driving in the
spirit of competition so that the box returns more quickly to a more
sensible gear ratio. I've tried stuff like dropping into 3rd/neutral
and back to drive but no effect - the box will still continue in too
low a gear for around a minute - seems more like five. Is this all
controlled by the ECU or is there a separate control system built into
     the gearbox? Any suggestions?

     Thanks
     Al
