Actually a 1/2" breaker bar is plenty strong enough.  Including with a
cheater bar long enough to allow you to stand on it to get sufficient
torque.  
I thought it might break so I used a piece of junk 1/2" ratchet I didn't
care about breaking and it survived intact.  I also used a sears craftsman
breaker bar and it too survived unscarred.  In fact I did this job a couple
of times with out either of the two special tools and would not hesitate to
do it again.  I suppose they'd be nice to have though. 

FWIW...my biggest problem was trying to lock the cam pulley.  There is
another special tool for this but it's not either of the ones you
mentioned.  I can't remember it's number.  I guess this pulley isn't always
so difficult but for some reason mine didn't want to let go.
