quattro advantage

The paper in Seattle said a few days ago that thanks to La Nina, this winter
should bring us ~18" of snow, 3x the normal amount. My thoughts turned to
whether to spring for AWD when I finally get an Audi (probably a ways off).

Obviously, AWD has to be an advantage. But I have the impression, after a
year and a half on the list that it's a huge, dramatic advantage, a quantum
leap, not just a little bit better. Am I right?
