Possible to test Knock Sensor?

I would like to know if it is possible to test the knock-sensor on my 87 5Kq
with the NF engine. I have been hearing a knock under load at mid to high
RPM as if I were using low octane fuel for the last week. I have burned
through 2.5 tanks of 93 octane fuel from three different stations with no
change in the knock. The plugs, dist. cap, dist. rotor, and plug wires are
all less that 8 months old, some newer. If there is a problem with the
sensor, shouldn't the check-engine light activate? The car is white with a
grey hood and grey driver's side fender, I don't think this should affect
anything but thought I'd mention it. :)
