Maybe they just can't count?

This may be a Florida car - in the early 80's, imported cars in Florida
were titled the year they were sold, not the year of production - this was
a quirk of the DMV, not yet another dealer-invented attempt to skin car
buyers. (Evidently trying to protect the indigenous automobile producers, I
guess . . . )

I begin to suspect that perhaps German motor vehicle manufacturers simply
cannot count. I once owned a 1955 BMW R50 motorcycle, serial number 550 016
- it was the sixth R50 built in this series - for some reason they started
counting at 550 010 instead of the expected 550 001. " ? "
