Andrew,
Thanks for pointing this out. Now I see what happens if readers parse a
post in a way writer did not intend it to be parsed. So to apologize
for any confusion and to clarify:

FOR CARS UNDER MANUFACTURER WARRANTY.
My original post (brother's comments) did say: FOLLOW MANUFACTURERS
REQUIRED OIL/FILTER CHANGE INTERVAL. His comments (re: prolonged oil
change interval) ARE NOT AN ENDORSEMENT OR STATEMENT ON BEHALF OF MOBIL.

12K oil change, 6K filter change, when using synthetic oil (Mobil 1 in
my brother's case) is contrary to engine manufacturer requirements - but
works for my brother and is supported by lab tests of the oil (which I
did not mention were paid for by him and done at an independent,
certified lab - not Mobil). YMMV

Reason for 6K filter change is - engines are dirty - when you exceed
recommended oil change interval, R&Ring the filter is the "trade off" to
changing the oil. IMHO, I would NEVER leave a filter or mineral oil in
for more than 6K miles.

Finally, and I should have put this in original post; for those who are
following this thread, my brother's and my comments make the
assumptions: you change your own oil/filter, take the time to regularly
check fluid conditions and levels, have a desire and/or the need to know
more about your car than where the engine is and have no problem asking
questions when you don't understand something or the writer confuses you
(which I guess I did in this case).

Thanks again Andrew. I hope this clarifies my original post.
