You know, this is funny. I agree that yeah, these engines do last a long
time, and yeah, the audi engineers ae good, but there is one thing
standing in the way of this comment. The stroke of these engines is
immensely long, at least when compared to the redline of the engine.
This causes an incredible amount of strain on the rods, wrist pins and
bearings. I would love to open up an I5 and see those parts after that
long. I just took the head off of my parts car, a car that was running
GREAT when it ws in its accident. what i saw was not pretty. The exhaust
valves were burnt white, there was an incredible amount of blowby, the
carbon buildup on the pistons was horrible...there was even oil in the
intake manifold. the mystery is why thse cars run well in that
condition. Yeah, i have 186k miles on my car, but i would shudder to
think about what the inside of it loks like.....
