That's true, and it's very possible that the thing was never recoded.

Mine has been OK even when that battery has been disconnected for 
several minutes. It finally locked up when I put in the Euro lights 
and relays, etc. YMMV.

The best option, if the radio is not currently locked, is to program 
your own code into it before disconnecting power. I think you can do 
this without knowing the existing code. The instructions are in 
Bentley, and will be up on the 20V page in a day or two. I'm pretty 
sure the earlier 80/90 cars used the same (programmable) Wiesbaden 
unit as the early 20V cars.
