Re: 10 year rust perforation warranty? was Re: 1988 Audi 90 Quattro???

This is the deal....

I bought my 88 90Q a few months ago. Unnoticed by me was some rust
underneath the trunk lip, tucked in above the left brake light lens &
license plate. I found it when I was putting on the new plate. There was
originally 6 year rust warranty. There was a sticker on my warranty book
that said AoA extends the 1989 (yes, '89) model year warranty to 10 years.
So, I called the four dealers in my area and all gave me different answers
(different variations of mileage limits, original owner, 6 years, etc...).
So, I then called AoA and spoke with Kelly. I explained my situation and
she checked with her supervisor and in the "Warranty Policy & Procedures
Manual" (quote: "It's our Bible.") and she explained that it's for any
owner, unlimited miles and 10 years form the in service date. It's called
the Audi Advantage Maintenance Protection and if the in service date is
8/1/88 (yes, 88) or later, it's 10 years of coverage. I was only asking
about an 88 90Q and this policy is for 1988 80/90s, so if you have a
different model, it may be different. But, hey, the phone call is free.

Now, the good (or bad) news: The rust must perforate a body sheet metal
part. Surface corrosion w/o penetration is not covered. Also, there are
the normal exclusions for "if you were in an accident and the repair was
bad", etc... that apply as well.

My in service date was Jan 24, 1989 so I have a few months for the rust to
perforate the panel; it hasn't yet....
