If an Audi over heats only when idling or sitting in one place,  (like in a
L.A. traffic jam) the first thing that should be checked is to see if the
hurricane force fan is running. If it is not running then check the coolent
fan, which is run by the thermoswitch located on the radiator.  I do not
know what side it is located on your car, but you can test run the fan by
running a jumper wire across the plug terminals on the wiring harness
connector for the thermoswitch.  If the fan runs while the jumper wire is
in place then you have a bad thermoswitch.  I have found that these
thermoswitchs last from 2 to 8 years.  I replace mine about every 2 years
when I flush the cooling system.
