Is the 1990 still CIS-E, or is it Motronic? If CIS-E:
Fuel system residual pressure leak-down. Attach a pressure gauge to the
fuel system and watch the residual pressure when the engine is switched
off. It should fall to around 2.8 bar but no further.
a) Take the car to a Bosch fuel injection specialist, not an Audi dealer.
b) Order to check:
- cold start valve - pull it, is it dripping?
- system pressure control valve - disconnect return line. Dripping?
- fuel system check valve - a bit tougher - undercar clamping job
- injectors - just plain tedious - check spray pattern while they're
out
