Audi vs. BMW sale
The recent thread about Audi salespeople's attitudes reminds me of a
story.
A college friend has a brother who is a doctor, single, and makes enough
money to walk into a dealership and plop down cash for a brand new car.
Well this doctor wanted a Subaru Outback, and this was when they first
came out, and were extremely popular. He did some extensive checking via
the Internet to learn the dealer's cost on the car, he then added 5% and
came up with a price he was willing to pay. He went to the first dealer
and made his offer, the salesperson laughed at him and said, "No way!"
(remember this is full cash payment up front). He said, "Your loss." and
walked out and went to another dealer. The second dealer said you've got
a deal, and the doc drove away in his brand new Outback, with the exact
options he wanted. He then proceeded back to the first dealer and
pointed out the profit they had lost (nice touch I think).
The moral? If you have multiple dealers any where near you, check them
out, I'm sure one of them will be willing to take the deal you offer,
not all of them are assholes.
