did they explain what the problem was to you before they actually did the
work?

I think they need to explain the problem to you and then you have to
authorize them to move forward with the repairs.  I never let the shop do
any work (dealer or no dealer) without getting a full, detailed explanation
of what they plan on fixing -- and how.

Also, isn't your car still under warranty?
