Are you sure you're not talking about Audis?
Actually, the worst reliability problem I've heard was the head gasket and
exhaust manifold cracking. The engine is a '50's design which is tried and
proven. The electrical problem is a holdover from the days of positive
ground systems - all switched components are switched on the ground side,
meaning any fault is transmitted throughout the system. I spent more years
lusting over XJ6/XJ12/Listers/3.8S Saloons than Audis. I believe they're as
cantankerous as our cars with their own quirks and foibles, requiring extra
attention like any sports car other than a Miata.
I'm certain the king of unreliability and high cost of maintenance remains
Ferrari, followed closely by Lotus, Lambo, Jaguar and Audi. Give me a 383
powered XJ6L anytime...
