ch, ch, ch, screeeech! (starter...)

Okay wise ones, here's my problem with my newly acquired '84 4000 S.  When I
turn her key she cranks at  what I perceive to be about 1/2 speed.
Sometimes too, she'll screech instead of crank or crank a couple of times
then turn into a screech.  Is it time for a new starter?  If so, having not
located a Bentley yet (Amazon.com showed nothing) are there any tricks to
this?

 I located the starter under the exhaust manifold, but I didn't get a good
look at it.  If I got her up on ramps is it a simple bolt on procedure or is
more involved???  Out of all the things I've replaced on cars a starter has
never been one of them.

So, any help with my screeching would be much appreciated.  Oh, and a good
source for the new starter.  Oh, and a Bentley.  Man, I could take up a
whole digest with questions for y'all, but I'll do one at a time as I fix
them.  Thanks so much for any help.  This forum is one of the greatest
resources a car-nut can have!
