Supercharger for 2.8 L

I just read an article in this months Audi Driver (which I picked at EWA in
New Jersey) on Supercharging the 2.8 L engine by a tuner out of Germany. They
used an American "vortech" made supercharger and it picks up the hp by about
60 hp.
Unfortunately the article left some very salient details such as the
following.
What does supercharging do vs. turbocharging?
Any idea as to the costs?

This could resolve of the problems with the 2.8L 12v.
