Re: 4K that won't idle

Sorry for the confusion -- what I get for reading off-line & being
unable to dash off an immediate response, now I can't find the original
article!

A lister reported having problems getting his car to idle after
replacing the air filter. While he described a tap to a component which
Phil says does not take kindly to taps, my first thought on reading the
symptoms was that a vacuum line had come loose during all the fiddling
with the airbox cover required to replace the air filter.

I was reminded of this Saturday when I was reconnecting the OXS wire
(more later). To gain access, I had loosened the flexible connector
between the air box and the throttle body, including the two vacuum
lines that go into it. On completing my work, I started the car and
first noted that it wouldn't idle under about 1500 RPM, then it finally
died to the point where it wouldn't start at all.

A quick peek showed me what I'd got wrong -- the rubber wasn't sealed
all the way around the big hole in the airbox itself. I carefully
slipped it into place, tested it to make sure it was seated around all
360 degrees, tightened the hose clamp and presto, no more leaks.

So -- to the original lister, whoever you are -- check for various
air/vacuum lines that could have come unplugged/disconnected while you
were fiddling with the air filter. There are at least three that
connect into my intake duct, one of which is at the very bottom right
over the header and isn't visible.

Wishing you as lucky a fix as I had,
