NF versus NG engine
A fellow in Dallas recently bought a 1987.5 Coupe GT with a blown engine,
and is trying to transplant an NF engine from a 5000 into his Coupe.
However, he has run into concerns about the fuel injection system. The
NF head appears to have 1/2" ports for the fuel injectors, while the NG
engine has 1" ports for the fuel injectors (at least, this is how he
describes it to me). I knew that the intake manifold was different, but
he also says that the fuel injectors are different between the two
engines.
>From the little info I can gather, I thought the FI system on the NF and
NG engines would be the same (i.e. fuel distributor and injectors). I
assumed that both NF and NG heads used the air-shrouded injector inserts,
similar to the 2226cc KX/JT engine of the earlier CGT/4000q.
Does anyone know what the differences are between the NG and NF heads
and/or fuel injection systems?? Can the NG intake manifold be grafted
onto the NF head and the NG FI system be used with the NF fuel injectors?
Thanks,
Eric
