RE: S2 Production numbers

the s2 was originally a coupe only.  it was later followed by a 4-door and
an avant.  both based on the 80.  the s2 which they refer to was the saloon.
it was not the original s2 but followed the coupe into production.

in addition, the s2 had two iterations.  the original had essentially the
220hp "rr" motor and the conversion work to fit it into the coupe was done
by sms.  imo, this car compared poorly to the 20v ur-q, and the motor never
felt as strong (poor breathing imo).  the 'evo' arrived late '93 for the '94
model year and had the 230hp motor with overboost, the 6-speed box, deleted
the sevotronic steering, firmed up the dampers and improved the brakes.  all
significant improvements.

car (derek bell) did an excellent comparison of the early s2 and the 20v
ur-q which hit the differences on the head.  exactly.
