... remember however that now, rather than having the dash switch activate a
relay ... probably needing to handle no more than a few tens of milliamps of
current in order to do so ... you are now asking the switch to support the
entire current drawn by the lights! I don't know the rating of the switch,
but I doubt it is anywhere near the approximately 15 amps that you are
asking it to do for 200 watt lights. I don't know the specific wiring for
your model of car, but given the fact that the switch is often gated with
the headlights being on, it may be the case that you have increased the
amount of current that the main headlight switch is handling by the same
amount! The fuse may be running cooler ... but that is probably all that
is!
What I would recommend that you do is to get the wiring diagram for your car
and figure out how to wire the relay so that it will perform in the way you
wish without removing any relays. I have to say it is a bit amusing to me
to hear this when there are so many people ADDING relays to their car's
lighting circuits ...
