Quattro Tranny Noise
I have a 1988 AUDI 90Q with 140K miles. When the car is cold, there is a
whirling noise from the tranny between 40-55 MPH. This lasts for at most a
mile and then goes away. At first I thought it was the center bearing
(which I replaced) but tracked it down to the tranny on a lift (it's not
coming from the front differential or Torsen Diff).
The noise started after I changed the tranny fluid and replaced the center
bearing (not right after, but 1-2k miles later). One thing I thought was
odd was when I changed the tranny fluid, it poured out of the inlet! I'd
say there was an extra 1/2-3/4 of a quart in the tranny!! Then I replaced
the fluid and of course didn't over fill it. I even put in Redline MT-90 to
see if that would help (it doesn't make as much noise, but is still there).
It almost seems to me like some bearings aren't getting lube'd right away.
If anyone has info or ideas, I'd appreciate it.

Thanks and happy Quattro'n!!!
