At this point, I've always taken out the vacuum cleaner and put the
hose over each plug removing any loose sand/dust. Then, pulled the
plug out 1/2 way -- using vacuum again. Finally, all the way out and
vacuum one more time. The whole time, I've felt rather anal doing
this.

What is the purpose of this? Doesn't the simple green get down into
the plug housing?

Perhaps this is too trivial to mention, but remember to line up each
plug with the same connector the Distributor Cap when you replace the
wires.
