I was swayed by the reported oil smell and the lack of 'noise' as one
of the symptoms. One of the freakiest I saw was an engine where the
little semi-circular rubber bung on the back of the head had been dropped
into the cam/follower space and blocked one of the oil return holes.
The oil overflowed into the distributor drive gear space and was
liberally drawn up the shaft.
