We had this problem in two 5000's and it turned out to be the fuel supply. In
one case the tank had contamination in it and had nearly completely bocked the
screen causing the fuel pump to cavitate. Cleaning the screen solved the
problem in the short term, but the pump eventually had to be replaced as well
as the tank. If the tank and/or screen are this bad It's best to pull the tank
and have it cleaned or replaced. In our case the contiaminated tank was the
cause of the problem. The contamination was primary rust flakes, but we.ve
seen everything from dead hornets to sandwich wrappers.
