Wankel was the man that invented the rotary engine concept.
The first mass produced car with rotary engine was the NSU Ro80.
The NSU company was merged with Audi in the 60s. The rotary engine
development program proved to be too expensive at Audi/NSU that
they decided to sell the rights to Mazda.
