Audi superiority...supposed.
There seems to be quite a bit of posturing going on about
Audis v/s Bimmers and the like. I was reading C&D the other
day and noticed the comparo of the Chrysler M300, Lexus GS300,
Saab 95, and the Audi A6. My initial reaction to this line up
was that they would probably just about tie the Lexus and the
Audi, give third to the Saab, and last to the Chryster.
The results?
They tied the Chrysler and the Audi, followed by the Lexus and
then the Saab! Not to say that the Americans _can't_ make a
good car...but I was dubious. At the end of the article though,
the author mentions that if it weren't for the factoring in of
price in their ranking system though, the Chrysler would have
come in dead last...whew!, that's more like it.
I'm sure however, that you will see complaints come in from the
Lexus and Saab owners about losing out to the Audi (they will
probably discount the M300's win just as I have because of that
silly 'costs $5000 less than the other cars' factor ;)- if you
look at the stats, the Audi loses out in 0-60, 1/4mile, 60-0, and
most other performance data. But there is one telltale clue
as to why it would win- it took top honors in the slalom, despite
it's 'lousy' performance data! Yet another case where the total
Audi package outweighs other carmaker's focus on those magical
drag-strip times.
