Ahhhh, no, not quite.  The upshift indicator is nothing
more than a switch attached to a vacuum line. (Not 
attached anymore in most cars, as owners considered it
a useless distraction.) This is also the case with most
cars that have an "economy" gauge, nothing more than
a vacuum sensor or switch.
