89 90q clutch problem

Realizing I'm not quite sure WHAT is wrong with the clutch, I figured I'd
ask you guys to diagnose(!) Symptoms are:

Clutch is not slipping and release bearing is not noisy but
there is a distinct "clunk" when the clutch is released in 1st gear and
about 80% engaged.  Suspect weak or sticking pressure plate that feels like
a "delayed engagement".  Car has 195,000 Km (121,000 miles) on the
drivetrain.

Any ideas would be helpful.
