Philip;
    I believe your S4 has a sunroof. If it is not properly adjusted, it
makes an incredible amount of noise at speed. The rear edge of the sunroof
has to be slightly higher than the front edge - the Bentley manual will give
the adjustment specs for your car. I had the same problem with my '91 200q
when I bought it and the noise disappeared when I adjusted the sunroof to
spec. Check out your sunroof for the source of the noise.

    Most AC systems have a low temperature switch which disables the
compressor clutch circuit. I guess the designers did not live in Scotland
where it can be damp at 5 centigrade!
