A few nights ago I was coming home on the tollway - doing 70 in the middle
lane (flow of traffic, speed limit 55). A van in the slow lane moved into
the middle. As I moved into the fast lane to go around I saw another car
coming up behind reasonably fast. I started to accelerate. He stayed
behind, closer than I like. No room to move over to the middle lane yet -
too many cars. Continued to accelerate... About the time I was ready to
move over, the red and blue lights came on. Pulled over, rolled down the
window calculating the horrendous hit my checkbook was gonna take. The man
walks up wearing a tshirt (obviously off duty), grinning and says "Is 90
fast enough?". I explained he was dead on my butt and I was trying to get
outa his way. He laughed and said - "Just slow it down a little." Drove
with intense relief the rest of the way home with the flow of traffic -
still 15 over...
