Should I buy 1987 Audi 5000s?
I have the opportunity to buy a 1987 Audi 5000s 120k. It has an
automatic transmission which has been well cared for (frequent fluid
changes, 14 point checks), a new fuel pump and filter, alternator, front
tires, and cold start mechanism. The timing belt and water pump were
replaced about 15k miles ago.
The car has recently developed a cold start problem (takes 5 tries to
start for the first time each day--then fine after that). The previous
owner changed fuel pump, filter, and cold start mechansim, but it still has
the problem. He also just put $600 dollars into new AC parts; all the AC
needs now is a new compressor. All windows and locks work. The sunroof
does not. One of the back doors does not open from the inside and the radio
doesn't work.
It is in good condition, inside and out, and they are asking $1900 for
it, although they said that they will be reducing the price. They also said
that it was very negotiable.
Does this sound like a good deal? If so, how little do you think I can
get it for? Are auto transmissions with this many miles just $3k waiting to
happen? I don't have this type of money....
Thank you for you time. I appreciate any responses!! (PLEASE EMAIL
RESPONSES TO ME; I HAVE NOT YET JOINED THE QUATTRO LIST)
